Mariënburg Campus improvements
Vibrant new campus with international staff and small-scale education
The Mariënburg Campus in ‘s-Hertogenbosch is the main location of JADS and is located in the old Mariënburg Convent. The campus is set to become the country’s data science hotspot where old meets new. The campus has a rich history but also offers modern education facilities, as well as space for startups and partners. Above all the campus has been designed as a place where interaction, networking, training, master classes and the exchange of skills and know-how take place and feed the data science community.
JADS Marienburg will become a smart(er) building!
JADS Marienburg should be an environment where data is central and that of course includes the building in which we work. Therefore we aim to turn Marienburg into smart building that generates data about how it is used. For this purpose, JADS has established a partnership with BeSense, part of Heijmans using their sensor platform. As of January 31, most of the lecture rooms (MDB 0.33, 0.09, 0.10, 1.09, 1.10, 2.09 and 3.02) and some student project rooms (MDB 1.08 and 1.15) will be equipped with comfort sensors (CO2, humidity, temperature, noise) and presence sensors (counting the number of people entering and leaving the room). These sensors will capture the environmental conditions of these rooms, as well as how they are occupied during the day but will not be able to identify individual persons, so your privacy is guaranteed. Moreover, the data will be securely stored and access will be limited to researchers and students working on projects related to the sensor data. For example, this semester data will be used as part of a design project in the course JM0110 Creative Thinking and Innovative Design. In this course we will collect data about subjective perceptions of vitality and comfort in the room and link that to the data from the sensors to develop data-driven services for different stakeholders.
If you are interested to work with the data, please contact Martijn Willemsen, the project leader (M.C.Willemsen@jads.nl). If you have other questions, please email the housing committee at firstname.lastname@example.org .

A kind reminder
To keep things nice and tidy we would to ask you to put all furniture back in its original position, make sure to clean up your stuff and leave the flipovers where they are, if the urgent need for a flipover should arise (and we all know it will at some point) the reception has tablesized flipovers you can borrow.
