Data Science for professionals in Health

The Execute track is a Level 2 certificate program in data science for professionals, based on the dual perspectives of the universities of Eindhoven and Tilburg. Develop yourself by determining your own growth path and become a Certified Data Science professional in your field of work. In 20 weeks you will work on an extensive and realistic data-science challenge, supported by technical experts and the Communities’ Academic Directors. Become a part of the JADS Data-Science Community: a network for life-long learning for data-science professionals.

Execute a data science project

In small teams, we work on an extensive and realistic data-science challenge, supported by technical experts and the Communities’ Academic Directors. You will experience how to apply technical knowledge to relevant business issues and work on a group data science project. The track consists of:

  • Discover (Level 1): introduction to data science, and foundational program in machine learning and data engineering. Theory of supervised and unsupervised learning, and their practical applications in a Python-based analytics environment.
  • Core program: We learn the foundations of data engineering, data analytics and data entrepreneurship. Lectures and workshops include visualization, deep learning, forecasting and privacy / data-protection law.
  • Community-specific programs: We learn specific applications of data science in the chosen community, and we discuss how the field is changing due to developments in Big Data and machine learning.
  • Professional skills: We learn to think strategically about new business concepts in healthcare, services, industry and government, including data-driven, disruptive business models. We also learn to be an effective project manager, who knows how to win support and get things done in a professional organization.

After completing this Track, you will receive an official JADS certificate signed by Tilburg University and TU/e and have the possibility to join the JADS Community or move on to the Data Science Lead Track.

Teaching and learning methods

At JADS we believe in Challenge-based learning: teaching does not start from theory and technology, but from a real challenge, either for a business or society or personal. Taking a real challenge as a point of departure makes learning motivating, helps in getting our company or organization involved, and is a catalyst to achieving real impact. Lectures and hands-on tutorials are taught by professors of the universities of Eindhoven and Tilburg, and experts from the field.

Daniel Kapitan

Daniel Kapitan is a Data Science expert with over twenty years of work experience. His personal motivation is to make the “language” of data accessible to a wider audience. He is optimistic about the potential of machine learning for social issues, but at the same time sees the concerns that exist in society with regard to the safe, transparent and responsible use of data and machine learning.

Joran Lokkerbol

Joran Lokkerbol is a data scientist and director of Centre of Economic Evaluation & Machine learning at Trimbos. Furthermore has he specialised in machine learning at Harvard and MIT, and is active as a post-doc at the UMCG. Issues that interest him are optimization of the healthcare system, consultancy and the development of models. In recent years his main focus has been evaluating cost effectiveness of interventions in mental healthcare.

The Lead Track continues after Execute, offering further specialization in selected topics, and individual development of your leadership skills. As a participant of the Lead track you do a substantial individual data-science project in your own organization. Supervised and supported by JADS experts.
