Applications are open for the EngD Data Science at JADS

Posted on

JADS has opened the vacancy for new candidates for the EngD Data Science. This traineeship gives master’s graduates the opportunity to develop, over two years, into experienced data science professionals who can combine academic depth, design-oriented thinking and close collaboration with organizations.

The Engineering Doctorate in Data Science is designed for people who want to continue learning and gain valuable work experience after their master’s. As an EngD trainee, you work on real challenges from industry, the public sector or research. You deepen your technical knowledge, develop professional skills and learn how data science can create value in an organizational context.

At JADS, this means working with complex data in real-world settings. Technology is never the end point. The focus is on questions that matter to organizations and society: better decision-making, smarter processes, responsible use of AI and data-driven solutions that can work in practice.

Why professional skills matter

Data science work rarely happens in isolation. This article explains why collaboration, communication and ownership are part of the EngD learning experience.

From digital twin prototype to scientific publication: this story shows how applied EngD work can contribute to better data-driven decision-making in cities.

A next step after your master’s

The EngD Data Science at JADS is a paid, two-year post-master’s program. Candidates are appointed as trainees and combine education, coaching and project work. The first year focuses on deepening expertise, training and several projects. In the second year, trainees work on a larger design-oriented project with an organization.

The program goes beyond models, code and analysis. Data science also requires collaboration, communication and the ability to work across disciplines. A technically strong solution has impact when people can use it, when the context is understood and when different perspectives are taken seriously.

That makes the EngD route a strong fit for candidates who want to deepen their technical foundation and grow as professionals: people who can sharpen questions, involve stakeholders and design solutions that are relevant in practice.

Connected to other EngD programs

This recruitment round is part of a broader EngD collaboration with Software Technology and Automotive Systems Design / Mechatronic Systems Design at Eindhoven University of Technology. Following the hybrid information session earlier this year, JADS and TU/e are again presenting these routes side by side, helping candidates explore how data science, software and high-tech systems design connect in practice.

Who should apply?

The vacancy is aimed at candidates with a relevant master’s background, for example in data science, computer science, mathematics, statistics or a related field. We are looking for people who enjoy working on complex questions, want to combine technical depth with practical application and are motivated by collaboration with researchers, companies and other stakeholders.

For candidates who want to keep learning after their master’s while gaining experience in practice, the EngD Data Science offers a meaningful next step.
