POA Summit recap: Exploring the future of data product oriented architectures
Posted onThe POA (Data Product Oriented Architectures) Summit held at JADS on 5 and 6 September 2024 brought together industry leaders and academic experts to explore cutting-edge solutions for data product oriented architectures. With 13 companies and 7 universities represented, including major players like ASML, KPN, ABN AMRO, and institutions such as Tilburg University and the University of Stuttgart, the event fostered meaningful dialogue on the future of data products.
Key insights and themes
A central theme was the absence of established best practices for data product-oriented architectures. Participants discussed a wide range of approaches, from legal frameworks to technical solutions. The most significant takeaway was that while many are grappling with these challenges, there’s still no definitive roadmap for implementation. However, the sharing of diverse approaches and practical insights was valuable for all attendees.
Standout session
The expert panel on Data Domain design within organizations sparked the most interest. It was a highly engaging discussion, where participants acknowledged the lack of literature or standards in this area, highlighting the need for academic and industry collaboration to address these gaps. The networking aspect of the summit also received positive feedback, as participants from both industry and academia found immense value in exchanging ideas and learning from one another.
Participant feedback
Attendees praised the summit for its practical insights and opportunities to network. Valery Rabinin, a data strategist at SAP, shared his appreciation on LinkedIN: “It was inspiring to meet like-minded industry professionals, share and learn from real-world experiences.” Participants from both academia and industry commented on the value of hearing directly from others facing similar challenges, with discussions often extending beyond session time. As one participant described it, “The connections made were a highlight of the event.”
Looking ahead
The summit demonstrated the need for continued dialogue on data product architectures, and plans are already underway for future events. In the meantime, a collaborative research paper is in development, which will summarize the various approaches discussed. Interested parties can stay informed by subscribing to the JADS newsletter or following our LinkedIn page for updates on upcoming events and research findings.
This inaugural POA Summit was a significant milestone in advancing the conversation around data product-oriented architectures, and we look forward to further exploring these critical issues with our growing community.
