Co-creating future-proof professionals
Big data is set to have a big future. The data revolution that is upon us, offers enormous opportunities for societal improvements and innovative products and services. At the same time, big data developments create risks that need to be addressed by those using such data. As a result, there is a large demand for data science experts. These experts must not only be technological experts, but also understand the legal, ethical, economic and human dimensions relating to big data. Tilburg University aims to educate the future data science experts who see opportunities and who also understand the social implications of using and applying big data. This closely fits the core identity of the university in which economics is linked to other disciplines including law and behavioral science.
Tilburg University and the University of Technology Eindhoven are equal partners in the data science programs, thereby delivering an optimum mix of technology and social sciences. Tilburg University is a leading knowledge institute in the areas of Finance and Marketing, Law and Governance and Behavioral Sciences. Whereas TU Eindhoven is a top-ranked university in the fields of Statistics, Mathematics, IT and Computer Science. Combining these strengths has resulted in multi-disciplinary bachelors and masters programs that deliver multi-talented data scientists. In addition, this unique collaboration also opens up new scientific research opportunities.
Data Science bachelors and masters programs
A wide range of interesting bachelors and masters programs is the result of the collaboration between the two universities. The programs are offered across three locations: at the universities in Eindhoven and Tilburg and at Mariënburg campus of the Jheronimus Academy of Data Science in ‘s-Hertogenbosch. The latter is co-partnered by the city of ‘s-Hertogenbosch and the Brabant region.
Data Science Center Tilburg
Data Science Center Tilburg (DSC/t) aims to unlock insights hidden in large data sets and assist industry and government to transform these insights into real-world solutions. It is the center’s mission to educate the professional and academic data science leaders of the future. DSC/t is unique as it combines research expertise from various disciplines: economics, management, law, social sciences, behavioral sciences and the humanities. In this way, DSC/t develops, teaches and applies data science in multiple domains and for many purposes. Similarly, data science research by DSC/t fuses scientific discourses that were, until now, conducted in isolation from each other: psychology, business, law, statistics, mathematics, computer science, information systems, cognitive science and ethics.
