JADS, municipality of ’s-Hertogenbosch and Koning Willem I College motivate students for the Vestingloop

’s-Hertogenbosch, April 22, 2025 – On Sunday, May 25, 2025, the 19th edition of the Vestingloop ’s-Hertogenbosch will take place. In celebration of the event, the Jheronimus Academy of Data Science (JADS), the municipality of ’s-Hertogenbosch, and Koning Willem I College are joining forces in an inspiring initiative: students from various programs will collaborate with a data scientist from JADS to explore how to engage all students in ’s-Hertogenbosch to participate in the Vestingloop.
Student challenge: toward a broad and inclusive Vestingloop
Within the framework of Het Talent Atelier, students are working on a unique collaboration between vocational education and academia. Students from healthcare, media design and urban design programs are challenged to come up with creative, engaging and activating ideas to encourage young people to be more physically active and more aware of their vitality. This could include campaigns, interventions or innovative concepts to motivate young people to sign up.
JADS researches sports behavior using wearables
In addition to the student challenge, JADS will conduct a data experiment for the second time during the 19th edition of the Vestingloop, as part of the European TREAT and IRHIS research projects, led by professor Aarnout Brombacher and Luís Carreira De Campos Figueiredo. JADS staff and students will wear wearables during the run that collect data on exertion, physical strain and recovery. The data will be analyzed to better understand how physical activity contributes to a healthier lifestyle, particularly for people with chronic conditions like diabetes.
Thursday, May 8: free Expert Talk on data, running and health at JADS
As a warm-up to the Vestingloop, JADS is organizing a free Expert Talk on Thursday, May 8. Professor Aarnout Brombacher, an expert at the intersection of data and sports, will demonstrate how data from fitness wearables such as Garmin, Apple Watch and Fitbit can help improve performance and prevent injuries.
