Data science is a multidisciplinary scientific field, with a large role for computer science and mathematical and statistical techniques, as well as human-technology interaction, social sciences and legal and ethical aspects. Data Science Center Tilburg is unique in that it combines these areas of expertise from Tilburg University’s different Schools.
Bringing together Tilburg University’s scientific big data expertise in economics, management, law, social sciences, behavioral sciences and the humanities to develop, educate and apply data science in many applications and domains.
DSC/t will undertake research in data science, fusing scientific discourses that were until before completely isolated, viz., psychology, business, law, statistics, mathematics, computer science, information systems, cognitive science and ethics. Tilburg University has the intention to create a research culture that focuses on excellence and discovery, high impact scientific breakthroughs essential to innovation, knowledge transfer and commercialization activities that tackle key societal issues which transcend disciplinary boundaries.
The DSCT research framework defines the following application domains:
• Consumer behavior
• Smart Industries (industries 4.0)
• Health Analytics
• Human capital & Labor Market
• Smart Cities
• Finance Institutions
• Legal Analytics
Professor Dick Den Hertog is the scientific director of the DSC/t.
